HIV Vaccine Research Collaborators

U.S. Military HIV Research Program (MHRP)
MHRP conducts research to develop an effective preventive HIV vaccine and integrates prevention, treatment, diagnostics, and monitoring as part of an international effort to reduce the impact of HIV infection worldwide. MUWRP is one of MHRP’s six international research sites. Others include Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Thailand.

Makerere University
Founded in 1922, Makerere University is Uganda’s premier higher education institute and works with MUWRP through a memorandum of understanding. Makerere University has been actively participating in initiatives directed at the clinical epidemiology, diagnosis, pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention of HIV/AIDS since its identification in East Africa in early 1984 and collaborates with a variety of North American institutions on HIV-related research.

Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF)
HJF is a private not for profit organization based in the United States dedicated to improving military medicine and public health.

Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR)
WRAIR is dedicated to combating the threat of naturally occurring diseases by conducting research to improve diagnostics, control measures, and treatments. MHRP is centered at WRAIR, in Maryland, USA.

Department of Defense- Global Emerging Infectious Surveillance and Response System (DoD-GEIS)
This U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) program aims to strengthen the prevention of, surveillance of, and response to emerging infectious diseases. The MUWRP EIDP program collaborates with Makerere University College of Veterinary Medicine, Ministry of Health (MoH), Nature Uganda, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), USAID, and the Makerere University School of Public Health.

Austere Environment Consortium for Enhanced Sepsis Outcomes (ACESO)
ACESO, centered at the at the Naval Medical Research Center in the US, aims to improve survival for patients with sepsis in resource limited settings through early recognition, diagnosis and evidence based clinical management.

Joint Mobile Emerging Disease Interventional Clinical Capability (JMEDICC)
Is a partnership between US Naval Medical Research Canter, US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), Joint Program Office and MHRP. The partnership aims at establishing capability to test therapeutics for Filoviruses outbreak invironment

A leading pharmaceutical company that supports research and innovation. The Janssen pharmaceutical company of J&J supports research on HIV and Ebola vaccines

Government body legally charged with coordinating the national multisectoral response against HIV/AIDS in Uganda.

Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST)
A semi-autonomous government agency mandated to develop and implement policies and strategies for integrating Science and Technology (S&T) into national development policies, advise Government on policy matters necessary for promoting S&T, and coordinating and guiding national research and development in Uganda.

An advocacy group in the US that publishes an annual review of progress in HIV vaccine development.

A network of African experts, working together to promote and facilitate HIV vaccine research and evaluation in Africa.
